I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I’m giving this 4.5 chickadees singing out of 5! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I almost put it down in the beginning because it was heartbreaking and disturbing to read about Trevor’s childhood, but I was glad I pushed through. It’s one sign of a good author that I was able to get so into the story and empathize with the characters so much!

BK’s childhood is no nearly as traumatic, but just as interesting. Her mother’s goal in life is to marry someone rich to support her and her daughters. She won’t let anything stand in her way. When her mother does get her way, BK and her sister are basically pawned off.

The format of the book is part of what makes it such a successful mystery. It begins in present day, then goes way back and Bk and Trevor’s childhoods are detailed. Eventually, their story lines meet up and you then get the exciting action. There’s also a “twist” that didn’t fully surprise me, but that I liked. This is definitely a book you can’t put down! I just wanted to keep reading and find out what happened next. It was a very quick-moving story with an engaging plot and characters. I would highly recommend this book for those who like suspense and action!
