Last Kiss

This Last Kiss

By Madeleine Reiss

Genre: Literary Fiction, Women’s Fiction

Book Summary:

Rora Raine is finally coming home to Hastings, twelve years after she left her grief-stricken father, and fled the love of her life, Carl.

Struggling to support her bright but troubled daughter, Rora has convinced herself she’ll never love again.

When she meets a bumblingly charming stranger, Rora’s heart begins to thaw.

Try as she might, she can’t run from true love forever.

Funny, warm-hearted and soaringly romantic, This Last Kiss is the redemptive story of two star-crossed lovers, told through each kiss they share.

Book Review:

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was an unexpected delight! It was a little bit of romance, a little bit of relationship drama, and a little bit of finding yourself and finding closure. Rora comes back home to take care of her father, who is close to death. She and her father have had a difficult past and he’s never even met her daughter, Ursula. Rora takes her daughter with her to rescue her from the bullying problems of her old school. She is also worried about running into Carl, her former boyfriend. The book flashes between Rora’s past with Carl and the present day. This book also places a huge emphasis on kisses, seen by the book and chapter titles. It was a unique way to categorize things.

This story was extremely heartwarming. There were so many intricate relationships explored- Rora and her father, Ursala and Rora, Ursala and her grandfather, Rora and Carl, Rora and her new friend Krystof, and more relationships that I can’t share without giving spoilers. I loved seeing these relationships grow and change. This book was also full of character development. I loved following Rora’s journey from beginning to end. There were interesting turns and revelations throughout the book. It had great pacing. I would highly recommend this book to fans of women’s fiction!

My Review

I received this book as part of a book tour. Finally, we get to read the conclusion to the Once Upon A Winter’s Night series! In the last book, Mitchell got some answers about what happened to leave him staggering in the snow on Christmas Day. However, Hannah believes there is even more to the story and takes it upon herself to do some investigations, with the help of her sister, Gina. Gina has worries of her own, knowing that she and Ross need to come clean about their relationship to his family.

The series was tied up nicely in this book with all questions answered. I would definitely recommend this book to fans of chick lit and romance! It had very interesting, likeable characters. The pace of the stories was good and I like that they were broken up into short, quick novellas. Overall, this was a very cute series with a satisfying ending.

I’m Not In Love Book Review and Giveaway

Im Not in Love Tour Banner 1

I’m Not in Love Book Summary

The tinsel and baubles are packed away, and the festivities are over for another year, but Hannah can’t forget the mysterious stranger who fell into her world on Christmas Day. She flings herself back into normal life in a bid to get him out of her head, which means dating other men and having fun with her sister, Gina. But just as she’s getting back on track, fate throws him into her path once more. And this time it results in far more complications than a burnt turkey.

Meanwhile, Gina, is creating problems of her own. As if a messy divorce isn’t enough, she grows closer to Ross, the local farmer’s son. Hannah knows her sister is not going to be popular when the relationship becomes public, especially with Ross’s doting parents or, indeed, Jess, Gina’s teenage daughter, who is far closer in age to Ross than Gina is herself.

Things are about to get very, very messy in Hannah’s neat little world…

I'm not in love

Book Review

I received this book as part of the book tour. Hannah can’t stop thinking of the stranger she met on Christmas. He shows up at her house one day… with his WIFE. His real name is Mitchell. Mitchell seems miserable and his wife seems controlling. She also seems like she’s hiding something about the day Mitchell lost his memory. Things with Mitchell get much more complicated further into the book. Hannah’s sister, Gina, and her relationship with the younger Ross, are also a storyline in this book.

This book continued where the first one left off with the same sweet charm. I could relate with Hannah having strong feelings toward someone, but knowing it wasn’t right and all the stress that comes with that. It was nice to have some sort of answers to Mitchell’s situation, although there is definitely a lot more I want to know about how he ended up in the snow! I enjoyed reading about Gina and Ross’s relationship as well. This book ended on a total cliffhanger, so I’m going to have to immediately read the third one!

The Edge of Sanity Review and Giveaway

I guess I have been on a bit of a thriller kick lately! My husband and I listened to “Gone Girl” and “Girl on the Train” within a month of each other, I read “Run Away Baby” a couple weeks ago, and now I have read “The Edge of Sanity.” Check out my review below!

The Edge of Sanity Tour Banner

Title of Book: The Edge of Sanity

Genre: Thriller/Psychological thriller/Crime thriller

Release Date: 29th April 2014

Publisher:  Safkhet Publishing

The Edge of Sanity – How far would YOU go to protect your family?

A decent, ordinary man, a man who has already suffered the loss of one child, Daniel Conner is forced by extraordinary circumstances into being a hero. Tortured, forcibly drugged—heroin still pulsating nauseatingly through his veins—his wife and daughter degraded, Daniel knows their kidnapper is beyond reasoning with. But does being pushed one step beyond endurance justify doing the unthinkable?

High on drugs, indebted to his supplier, and desperate, Charlie Roberts takes Daniel’s wife and daughter hostage. Daniel does everything within his power to rescue the situation bloodlessly. Eventually though, Daniel realises that with or without violent mood swings induced by amphetamines and cocaine, Charlie Roberts is a psychopath. He wants more than Daniel’s money.

He wants him.

The Edge of Sanity: a harrowing story of hope amid loss and betrayal.

Review

I received this book in exchange for partaking in the book tour. This book is about a family healing from the loss of their youngest daughter. Jo and Daniel, the parents, are considering separating. Jo has turned to drinking and Daniel is emotionally shut off. In a fit of rebellion, older daughter, Kayla, makes the acquaintance of Charlie Roberts, a seriously disturbed young man. Charlie is a drug dealer without morals and when he hears that the Conner family is coming into money soon, he kidnaps them. Unbeknownst to the family, Detective Short has been waiting a long time to nail Charlie and he is on the case.  This isn’t the standard locked-in-the-basement kidnapping, though. Charlie attempts to psychologically torture the family and bend them to his will. He uses drugs, beatings, taunts, lies, and anything else to push the family to the edge of sanity.

I was definitely on the edge of my seat to find out what would happen next in this novel. Short was my favorite character. He wasn’t afraid to break protocol and do what he needed to do to nail Charlie. I admired his persistence and dedication. Daniel was another very strong character. It was fascinating to read about how strong-willed he was in the face of Charlie’s tactics. I know I wouldn’t have had his strength. I love how through this horrible situation, Jo, Daniel, and Kayla saw each other in completely new lights.  I really liked how the reader got to be inside everyone’s heads. I especially liked reading about Jo and Daniel’s different emotions and thoughts about each other as they tried to survive the psychopath. There was an element of romance that somehow intertwined perfectly with the dark subject matter. This book was very well-paced. I never felt that it was moving slowly and the ending was the perfect length. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, as I do, I would recommend this novel. 3 out of 5 stars!
