I’m Not in Love Book Summary

The tinsel and baubles are packed away, and the festivities are over for another year, but Hannah can’t forget the mysterious stranger who fell into her world on Christmas Day. She flings herself back into normal life in a bid to get him out of her head, which means dating other men and having fun with her sister, Gina. But just as she’s getting back on track, fate throws him into her path once more. And this time it results in far more complications than a burnt turkey.

Meanwhile, Gina, is creating problems of her own. As if a messy divorce isn’t enough, she grows closer to Ross, the local farmer’s son. Hannah knows her sister is not going to be popular when the relationship becomes public, especially with Ross’s doting parents or, indeed, Jess, Gina’s teenage daughter, who is far closer in age to Ross than Gina is herself.

Things are about to get very, very messy in Hannah’s neat little world…

I'm not in love

Book Review

I received this book as part of the book tour. Hannah can’t stop thinking of the stranger she met on Christmas. He shows up at her house one day… with his WIFE. His real name is Mitchell. Mitchell seems miserable and his wife seems controlling. She also seems like she’s hiding something about the day Mitchell lost his memory. Things with Mitchell get much more complicated further into the book. Hannah’s sister, Gina, and her relationship with the younger Ross, are also a storyline in this book.

This book continued where the first one left off with the same sweet charm. I could relate with Hannah having strong feelings toward someone, but knowing it wasn’t right and all the stress that comes with that. It was nice to have some sort of answers to Mitchell’s situation, although there is definitely a lot more I want to know about how he ended up in the snow! I enjoyed reading about Gina and Ross’s relationship as well. This book ended on a total cliffhanger, so I’m going to have to immediately read the third one!

Title of Book: The Edge of Sanity

Genre: Thriller/Psychological thriller/Crime thriller

Release Date: 29th April 2014

Publisher:  Safkhet Publishing

The Edge of Sanity – How far would YOU go to protect your family?

A decent, ordinary man, a man who has already suffered the loss of one child, Daniel Conner is forced by extraordinary circumstances into being a hero. Tortured, forcibly drugged—heroin still pulsating nauseatingly through his veins—his wife and daughter degraded, Daniel knows their kidnapper is beyond reasoning with. But does being pushed one step beyond endurance justify doing the unthinkable?

High on drugs, indebted to his supplier, and desperate, Charlie Roberts takes Daniel’s wife and daughter hostage. Daniel does everything within his power to rescue the situation bloodlessly. Eventually though, Daniel realises that with or without violent mood swings induced by amphetamines and cocaine, Charlie Roberts is a psychopath. He wants more than Daniel’s money.

He wants him.

Review

I received this book in exchange for partaking in the book tour. This book is about a family healing from the loss of their youngest daughter. Jo and Daniel, the parents, are considering separating. Jo has turned to drinking and Daniel is emotionally shut off. In a fit of rebellion, older daughter, Kayla, makes the acquaintance of Charlie Roberts, a seriously disturbed young man. Charlie is a drug dealer without morals and when he hears that the Conner family is coming into money soon, he kidnaps them. Unbeknownst to the family, Detective Short has been waiting a long time to nail Charlie and he is on the case.  This isn’t the standard locked-in-the-basement kidnapping, though. Charlie attempts to psychologically torture the family and bend them to his will. He uses drugs, beatings, taunts, lies, and anything else to push the family to the edge of sanity.

I was definitely on the edge of my seat to find out what would happen next in this novel. Short was my favorite character. He wasn’t afraid to break protocol and do what he needed to do to nail Charlie. I admired his persistence and dedication. Daniel was another very strong character. It was fascinating to read about how strong-willed he was in the face of Charlie’s tactics. I know I wouldn’t have had his strength. I love how through this horrible situation, Jo, Daniel, and Kayla saw each other in completely new lights.  I really liked how the reader got to be inside everyone’s heads. I especially liked reading about Jo and Daniel’s different emotions and thoughts about each other as they tried to survive the psychopath. There was an element of romance that somehow intertwined perfectly with the dark subject matter. This book was very well-paced. I never felt that it was moving slowly and the ending was the perfect length. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, as I do, I would recommend this novel. 3 out of 5 stars!

My Review

This book was given to me in exchange for a review as part of the book tour. 4/5 stars!  I really enjoyed this conclusion to a wonderful series. Phoebe seemed to have a little more of a backbone and more confidence in this novel. She and Jack work out their problems after the big fight in the last book and he even asks her to move in and wants to get married. Phoebe has to get the office ready for her going on maternity leave. She is still trying to better her relationship with Jack’s mother. May (Rebecca’s mother) is around more in this story and I just love her and her kindness toward Phoebe.

This was a great conclusion to the story. Everything was tied up nicely and issues were resolved in a satisfying, yet realistic, way. It’s amazing to see how much Phoebe and Jack’s lives have changed in the last year. The story definitely kept my interest throughout with its varied characters and engaging writing style. Phoebe is a very relatable and easy to cheer for main character. I highly recommend this series!

Book Review

I received this book for free as part of the book tour. I am really enjoying this series! I think I’m going to give this book… 5 out of 5 stars! Please don’t read this review if you haven’t read the other books! I don’t want to spoil anything. In this book, Phoebe finds out she is pregnant! Jack finds out Adam kissed Phoebe on the roof. The worst part? He found out from HIS MOTHER. Phoebe is afraid to tell Jack about the pregnancy and when she finally gets up the courage, she’s confused by his reaction. Archie is still living with Jack and causing family drama. Phoebe doesn’t get as much one-on-one time with Jack thanks to his brother. Things at work aren’t much less complicated! Adam is still being flirty toward Phoebe.

I definitely feel like I can relate to Phoebe. She is a real character and she and Jack have realistic issues. I feel so bad for Phoebe and the situations she is in in this book. She is such a loyal friend and girlfriend, a very likeable character. She also works very hard at her job. Jack just keeps confusing me! I can’t tell what he is thinking sometimes! I hope he becomes more open and honest in the next book. I really liked a new character who was introduced in this book- Rebecca’s mom, May. I want to see more of her in the next book most definitely.

My Review

I was given a free copy of this book as part of the book tour. 4 out of 5 chickadees singing! I really enjoyed this book! Phoebe is enjoying her new job at the toy store, but then becomes stress about the pressure to increase sales and keep them in business! Meanwhile, Phoebe and Jack decide it’s time to meet each other’s parents. Jack meeting Phoebe’s parents goes okay, but Phoebe can tell immediately that Jack’s mother dislikes her because she isn’t his deceased wife, Rebecca (hence the title). In addition, Jack’s brother, Archie, starts living with them due to financial woes that he brought upon himself. This book is less lighthearted than the first one, but it deals with some serious, real-life relationship issues.

I love the character of Phoebe. She is incredibly sweet and kind, but not a pushover. Jack’s precious daughter, Maria, stole my heart. Midnight is the quirky, fun character that helps Phoebe break out of her shell. The kind of friend you didn’t know you needed until you met her. Jack is not as likeable in this book as in part one, but I think that’s the point. In relationships, there are going to be times when you aren’t sure you like the other person! He is a very realistic character, stressed by family problems and not always listening to sound advice. I could really relate to the relationship problems in this story. It will be interesting to see how they are addressed in the next book.

Overall, I definitely enjoyed this story and want to read more about Phoebe and Jack in the future! It kept my interest and I love the format of a novella for keeping things moving quickly! I feel invested in these characters and their relationships.
