Release Date: 1st August 2017

Flora Phillips has an excuse for every disaster in her life; she was abandoned as a new-born on a doorstep one cold autumn night, wrapped in nothing but a towel. Her philosophy is simple: if your mother doesn’t want you – who will?

Now a thirty-year-old, without a boyfriend, a career or home she figures she might as well tackle the biggest question of them all – who is she? So, whilst everyone else enjoys their Christmas Eve traditions, Flora escapes the masses and drives to the village of Pooley to seek a specific doorstep. Her doorstep.

But in Pooley she finds more than her life story. She finds friends, laughter, and perhaps even a love to last a lifetime. Because once you know where you come from, it’s so much easier to know where you’re going.

A story of redemption and love, romance and Christmas dreams-come-true, the perfect novel to snuggle up with this festive season.

My Review

I received this book as part of a book tour and am voluntarily reviewing it. This was a sweet story with a great plot. Flora was abandoned on a doorstep as a baby and one Christmas Eve, she decides to flee her life and try to figure out where she came from. Some of the townspeople support her search and try to help, while others are angry with her for digging up the past. One person who helps her is police officer Joel, who Flora has an unlucky encounter with her first day in town that lands her in jail. As Flora searches, she begins to question her future and what she wants to do with her life.

Each chapter changes viewpoints and by the end of the book, I would say the reader has been in about 10 different people’s heads. It wasn’t confusing, though. There was one chapter at the end of the book that I think should’ve been left off, as it took away from the reality of the story, but it’s an extremely minor complaint. I love how this book had an element of mystery to it as I tried to figure out, along with Flora, who her mother could be. It also had romance, small-town drama, family relationships, and friendships. This book was well-written and moved at a good pace, even though Flora didn’t have many clues to her origins. A great Christmas read for fans of multiple genres!

Christmas at the Falling-Down Guesthouse Review and Giveaway

Christmas at the Falling-Down Guesthouse

Christmas at the Falling Down Guesthouse

Author: Lilly Bartlett

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Christmas novella, chick lit

Michele Gorman is re-releasing her previous book, The Reluctant Elf, under her new rom-com pen name, Lilly Bartlett. I’m excited to have the opportunity to read it! I was given a copy of the book as part of a book tour and am voluntarily reviewing it.

Lottie gets a dreaded, middle of the night phone call that her Aunt Kaye is in the hospital. She rushes to rural Wales to run her aunt’s Victorian B&B because she has an important reviewer coming over the holidays. The bank is going to take Aunt Kate’s home unless she gets a good review!

Lottie has never seen the place and it turns out to be much less elegant and much more shabby than she ever imagined. She and her daughter, Mabel, only have 3 days to turn the place into a proper B&B worthy of a good rating. She ends up hiring her taxi driver, Danny, to stay on to do the cooking and help with repairs.

Chaos ensues, as this place could rival the money pit. When the reviewer shows up, he’s accompanied by his always-cranky sister and her husband, who tries to hit on Lottie. If that weren’t bad enough, they have twins who are bored by everything and just want to use wi-fi. Danny, Lottie, and Mabel truly have to “fake it ’til they make it!”

This was such a cute romantic comedy for Christmas! I laughed pretty hard when Lottie found out why she was told to wait 5 minutes between flushing the toilet and washing her hands! My heart was warmed as Lottie started to develop feelings for Danny. Mabel was such a precocious, yet sweet, little girl. With the descriptions, I really felt like I was in the once-grand mansion. I love novellas at Christmas and this sweet story did not disappoint! It was a quick, entertaining, and heart-warming read.

A Vicarage Christmas Summary

Series: The Holley Sisters of Thornthwaite Bk 1

Genre: Women’s fiction/romance

Release Date: October 18, 2017

Publisher: Tule Publishing

Welcome to Thornthwaite, a quaint village tucked up in England’s beautiful but rainy Lake District… where homecomings happen and surprises are in store for the four Holley sisters…

Anna Holley, the third of four sisters, has always felt a little bit forgotten. A family tragedy when she was a child had her retreating deep into shyness, and social anxiety kept her on the fringes of the cozy, chaotic bustle of the busy vicarage.

When she finished school Anna left for Manchester and tried to avoid coming back home and the well-meaning nosiness being a Holley sister in a small village like Thornthwaite meant… but when her father says he has an important announcement to make, she’s drawn back home for the happy chaos of a vicarage Christmas.

Avoiding her sisters’ bossy questions, Anna heads out to the local pub one night, and meets a handsome stranger nursing a pint. Somehow, unburdened by expectations, Simon seems like the perfect person to spill all her secrets to—including a hopeless, long-held crush on her sister’s boyfriend. Confident she’ll never see him again, Anna returns home… only to discover the next day that Simon is actually her father’s new curate!

Anna is beyond mortified, but Simon won’t let her retreat into her usual shyness—and for once Anna is forced to confront the past, and all the fears and feelings she’d tried so long to hide. But with his own heartache that needs to heal, can Simon help Anna to make this the most magical Christmas either of them have known?

My Review

This was a lovely book for Christmastime. Anna has been avoiding coming back home to Thornewaite, where her father is the vicar. She doesn’t like all the attention she gets from the small village because of who her father is nor the memories it brings back of her deceased brother. Anna runs out her first night at home and meets a man at a pub. She ends up spilling the truth about how she feels about her family. The next day, she discovers who this man is and feels horrified.

There was so much to love about this heartwarming story. Anna has a close and loving family, even if she doesn’t always realize it. The man she meets at the pub, Simon, is sweet and patient. Anna is a very realistic and relatable character with her social anxiety challenges. I believe the series is going to do a book about each sister and I’m excited for that. Each one is at a very different point in their life at the end of this book. If you’re looking for a heartwarming read, I would highly recommend this book.

Christmas Review and Giveaway

Christmas at Lilac Cottage Review and Giveaway

By Holly Martin

Genre: Romance, Christmas, Chick Lit

image001

I was given a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. 3.5 out of 5 chickadees singing! Main character Penny is an ice sculptor in the tiny town of Cliff Bay. She realizes she has become a bit of a hermit living on a hill away from town and decides to rent out part of her home to Daisy and Henry, who she found through an agency. Things are not off to a great start when Penny assumes that Daisy is Henry’s wife when she is actually his daughter. She can’t understand why she has such an attraction to a married man and why he seems to be flirting with her as well.

Eventually, Henry and Penny can’t deny their pull toward each other. Penny has been burned in the past, though, and she’s afraid of being hurt again. Henry has a bit of a playboy past and doesn’t want to do anything that would put his relationship with his daughter in jeopardy, like what happened with his last girlfriend.

I liked the cozy little, although nosey, town of Cliff Bay. I thought that Penny had a fascinating job I enjoyed reading about. I liked that all three main characters- Henry, Penny, and Daisy- were complex with complicated histories and back stories that continued to affect them today. That was very realistic and relatable. I’m not usually a fan of straight romance, but there were other subplots going on that helped keep my interest. For example, Penny confronts someone from her past that she thinks played a role in hurting her and Henry has to deal with a complicated situation at his workplace. There were also a few absolutely hilarious (although very awkward- this is definitely an adult book!) moments in the book that cracked me up! I loved seeing the relationship between Penny and Daisy grow.

This was a sweet, light Christmas story. I would definitely recommend it for fans of romance. The characters are interesting and it keeps your attention the whole time with a good pace.

Good news, readers! I have three paperback copies of this book to give away! The giveaway ends on Christmas! Enter below! *US residents only
