First off, LOOK at that cover! Isn’t it mesmerizing?! I love the intricate details and jewel tone colors. It immediately makes you want to open it up and devour ALL OF THE WORDS!

Once you dive into the story, you are swept into an alternative Victorian England where young girls of station are being mysteriously murdered. FASCINATING!

Enter on stage left Evaline Stoker, descendant of a long line of vampire hunters, and the sister of Bram Stoker, author of Dracula. Enter stage right Mina Holmes, the niece of the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. The two girls cannot be more different. And yet, because of their family legacies and their own unique abilities, they are charged to put their lives on the line for the sake of the Crown- to catch a killer.

Throw in a time travelling hunk, a red headed detective, a swoony bad boy, and you’ve got yourself the perfect novel!

You guys, I can’t gush enough about how wonderful this book is! I listened to it on Audible, and the narrator, Jayne Entwistle, is PHENOMENAL. If you’re an audio book person, I highly recommend giving this book a try!

The Rosie Project Review

The Rosie Project

By Graeme Simsion

A huge thanks to my blog partner, Lindsey, for giving me this book!! 5 out of 5 stars! This was a great book, just as I had heard it would be! Don Tillman appears to have Asperger’s. He processes everything logically and has difficulty reading social cues. Don knows that statistically, married men live longer, so he sets out to find a wife. He creates a complex survey to eliminate any unqualified women. During this wife project, he meets Rosie, who doesn’t meet many, if any, of the qualifications. Although he isn’t considering her as a match, he decides to help her find her biological father.

Don was a great character. Although he is “odd,” he is likeable and his actions are understandable because as the reader, you are inside his head. You are definitely rooting for him to find a suitable partner. The secondary characters are extremely diverse and interesting.

This book was engaging right from the beginning and I read it all in one evening! I can’t wait to read the sequel. This book is part romance and part romance, but it’s not a chick lit. It’s pretty much a story for everyone who doesn’t hate love. It’s very sweet and uplifting.

The Unexpected Houseguest

The Accidental Guest

By Tilly Tennant

I was given this book as preparation for a book tour. This was a cute novella about an unexpected houseguest. Main character Hannah, her sister, Gina, and daughter-in-law, Jess, are preparing Christmas dinner when an injured man comes to the door. Worse than his physical injuries is the fact that he can’t remember who he is or where he came from. In their wait for the ambulance to come, Hannah finds herself inexplicably falling for this mystery man.
I enjoyed this book. The pace was good and the characters were interesting. It ended on a cliffhanger, but it’s a series, so that was fine. I’m excited to read the sequel and see what happens next!

Right Under Your Nose Review

Right Under Your Nose

By Holly Tierney Bedord

I was gifted this book as a thank you from the author for reviewing her first book.

This was a great sequel and follow up to “Right Under Your Nose.” I felt that Ariadne had definitely matured in this book and her immaturity was the thing that bothered me most in the first book. Her personality growth was a welcome change.

Ariadne and Jess are busily planning their wedding when Jess’s ex, Laurel, announces she is pregnant. Jess wants to be there for the baby that is probably his. Ariadne isn’t sure how to handle it and then she sees Laurel doing strange things and Jess doesn’t believe her.

The magical bookstore, Right Under Your Nose, plays a role in this story, as well! I love the story of the store and seeing its legacy continue. This was a sweet read and I really enjoyed it!
