What Happened in Vegas

What Happened in Vegas Book Review

By: Katie Bloomstrom

Genre: Mystery, Chick Lit, Cozy Mystery, Humor

Soooooo good! I was given this book in exchange for an honest review! Samantha Stone is quickly becoming one of my favorite fictional characters! She is Nancy Drew meets Becky Bloomwood. Nothing better than that!

Sam is on her first official mission, finding Leah after her sister, Anna, kidnapped her. While working on the case, she gets to take advantage of a sweet hotel room, private driver, room service, and the like, thanks to her wealthy new boss. She also gets tangled up in multiple complications again! Sam has to do some absolutely crazy things in this book for the sake of the case, including posing as a stripper! There were so many times when she made me laugh aloud. She meets tons of different characters, from the seedy to the sassy to the sweet. I love their descriptions and trying to figure out how they fit into the mystery.

I love that these books are in online blog format. The comments on Sam’s blog are AMAZING. From spam comments to parents who can barely use the internet to old high school enemies, I love them all. They give a “realness” to the story and remind us of Sam’s humble background. For goodness sakes, the librarian in her hometown prints off her blog to give out to the not-so-tech-savvy residents. So funny!

Again, Sam details all of her clues and theories in her notebook and we get to feel like we are trying to solve the case along with her. I love her not-so-traditional methods and watching her progress as she tries to figure everything out. The mystery was very well-done. It was not predictable, yet it was believable.

I wish we had gotten to see and hear more from the sexy FBI agent, Eddie, that Sam met in her last mission. However, the little taste we readers get of him just makes us more excited to read more about him next book! It seems that Sam’s next adventure will take place in Rome and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Sleeping With Your Best Friend

Sleeping With Your Best Friend Review

By: Rosa Temple

Genre: Chick lit, novella

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 stars! This was an enjoyable read. Lori’s best friend since childhood, Julia, unexpectedly and suddenly moves overseas right before her wedding. Lori is upset, but assumes that they’re just growing apart. After her wedding to Sam, she finds out on the honeymoon that he slept with Julia! Julia told Sam that Lori was allowing him “one last fling.” Lori is devastated to have been betrayed by her best friend and her fiancé. She decides to get revenge by sleeping with Sam’s best friend!

It was interesting to read about Lori going back and forth between trying to decide if she should take Sam back or not. I felt so bad for her and her betrayal. The whole time, I was trying to figure out what was going on with Julia and what her motivation was. Lori’s friend and roommate, Riz, was hilarious.

This was a very quick and easy read! It was engaging and I was interested to see how it would end. It was somewhat predictable, but that was okay. I would definitely read more by this author in the future!

Regency Love Review

Review of Regency Love

The map of everywhere you can go in the game.
The map of everywhere you can go in the game.

Hello lovely readers! Today will be a little bit different because I want to review an app, instead of a game! However, I think this is an app that a lot of book lovers will adore!

I discovered the app, “Regency Love” when a friend told me about it. I was intrigued because it sounded like a “choose your own adventure book,” but in app format. It is very similar to that! In addition, it takes place during one of the most interesting times- the regency era. You play a female character who interacts with other characters. Choosing your responses will determine your fate. Will you end up with your friend’s brother? The aloof and sarcastic, but intelligent with a heart of gold, party guest? Will you become an officer’s wife? Will you end up alone because you refuse to marry for any reason other than love? This is one of those games that you can play over and over again, changing your answers to get a different outcome. According to a reply on the studio’s facebook page, there are over 50 different paragraphs you could get as part of the epilogue!

The game isn’t just about romance, though. You also interact with two close friends, giving one advice on her love life. You choose how to treat your mother and various family friends. There is even a little girl character and a cat as a character!

You can choose between different response options when talking to characters.
You can choose between different response options when talking to characters.

Book lovers may love it because it reads like a “choose your own adventure” book. In addition to that, though, you also have to take quizzes about the regency period to advance forward in the game, including questions about literature written at the time (lots of Jane Austen questions)! You can also discuss certain books with at least one character in the game. After all, reading was one of the skills regency ladies needed to learn!

I would give this app the highest rating possible! It was absolutely worth the money to download it. I have had hours of fun ending up with different bachelors or cutting all my ties and ending up alone. They recently added a new character as part of an in-app purchase and I bought it without hesitation! The studio has plans to continue expanding the game. Book and gaming lovers, purchase this app!

*This review is my honest option and I got nothing for writing it and I will get nothing if you purchase the game. The pictures are my personal screenshots from my game play.*

Waiting on Wednesday- Stepdog

Title: Stepdog: A Novel

Author: Nicole Galland

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Pages: 416

Published: By Harper Collins Publishers on Aug. 4, 2015

Stepdog pb c

I’m so excited for the book, “Stepdog,” by Nicole Galland. As you guys know, and can see below, I am a total dog lover. This is me with my sweet boy, Bentley! I was automatically intrigued by the title. The book came out August 4th, but I haven’t had the opportunity to read it yet, so I’m making it a Waiting on Wednesday post! Make sure to check it out on Amazon if interested!

From the author of The Fool’s Tale and I, Iago comes a disarmingly charming and warm-hearted “romcom” about a woman, her dog, and the man who has to prove he’s good enough for both of them.

In NICOLE GALLAND’S STEPDOG (on sale August 8, 2015; ISBN 9780062369475; $14.99) Sara Renault fires Rory O’Connor from his part-time job at a Boston art museum, and in response, Rory—an Irish actor secretly nursing a crush on his beautiful boss—throws caution to the wind, leans over, and kisses her.  Now Sara and Rory are madly in love.

When Rory’s visa runs out on the cusp of his big Hollywood break, Sara insists that he marry her to get a green card. In a matter of weeks they’ve gone from being friendly work colleagues to a live-in couple, and it’s all grand . . . except for Sara’s dog, Cody, who had been a gift from Sara’s sociopath ex-boyfriend. Sara’s over-attachment to her dog is the only thing she and Rory fight about.

When Rory scores both his green card and the lead role in an upcoming TV pilot, he and Sara (and Cody) prepare to move to Los Angeles. But just before their departure, Cody is kidnapped by Sara’s ex—and it is entirely Rory’s fault. Sara is furious and broken-hearted. Desperate to get back into Sara’s good graces, Rory takes off and tracks Cody and the dog-napper to North Carolina. Can Rory rescue Cody and convince Sara that they belong together—with Cody—as a family? First they’ll need to survive a madcap adventure that takes them all across the heartland of America. STEPDOG is a refreshing and hilarious romantic comedy that asks: How far would you go for the one you love?

The Elite Book Review

The Elite Book Review

Title: The Elite (The Selection, #2)

Author: Kiera Cass

Pages: 336

Published: April 23, 2013

I finally read the second book in The Selection series! I am pretty sure it’s been over a year since I read the first one! The first one was just okay for me. I gave it 3/5 stars. Maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I read a dystopian novel that I really enjoyed this second story.

Nothing too huge happens in terms of the plot in this story. The Selection continues, but a winner will not be announced until the next book. America does find out more about how the current government came to be. America learns that she is not the only girl Maxon has been spending time with and the rebels continue their work to attack the kingdom.

This was a quick read for me. I enjoyed it and was able to stay engrossed in the story. I came to like and know America more as the story went on. America gets to see her family in this story and I enjoyed getting to know those characters. With the Selection narrowed down, you get to know the other girls a little better. Although I liked America as the main character, I came to wonder if she was the best choice for Maxon, as she wonders about herself. I am excited to read the third story and see how everything is all tied up!
