The Trouble with St. John Book Review

The Trouble with St. John Book Review

TTWSJ Cover Front

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. 4 out of 5 chickadees singing!   I really enjoyed this book! The main character’s “voice” and writing style was engaging. She was hilarious with her feelings and opinions. She wrote as if she were talking to a BFF.

Samantha’s fiancé has dumped her and disappeared, so she decides to go on her Honeymoon to St. John alone. While there, she loses her engagement ring… Or was it stolen? She meets a lot of interesting, suspicious characters, including a couple hotties. She decides to start sleuthing on her own to figure out what the heck is going on.

It was kind of fun to watch Samantha’s process since she isn’t actually an experienced detective. The comments on the blog added a fun feel, especially near the end. Super creative format. I loved how Samantha wanted to be a super-cool spy, but was really inexperienced and kept getting lost. It was like how I would probably be if I stumbled upon a real crime!

The characters were all really fun and confusing. I didn’t know who Samantha should trust either! As for the mystery, it all came together and made sense. It did get really confusing in the middle and wasn’t easy to figure out.

I would definitely recommend this book to fans of chick lit! It was an enjoyable, engaging story with a hilarious main character. Her “voice” is really what made the story! I would love to read the next one in the series.

Fab Five Friday – Favorite Book Covers

I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but OhMyWord, you guys! These book covers make my nerdy heart so happy!

This Fab Five Friday is dedicated to my favorite covers.

Some folks HATE having people on the cover. They say that it distracts them from the story, and prevents them from creating their own image of the characters as they read for themselves.

Clearly, I am not one of those people.

I LOVE covers with gorgeous gowns, beautiful backgrounds, or provocative poses. To me, they sweep the reader straight into the setting, and smoothly places them in the thick of the action.

the selection series

The Selection series.

Ok, ok, I’ll admit it. Part of the appeal of these covers is that they feature a redhead (GINGER POWER!). They also spotlight STUNNING dresses that I really wish I could wear to a fancy ball. America’s expressions also range from cheeky to thoughtful to confident as the series progresses. I’m a fan!

his fiar assassin series

His Fair Assassin series.

ForTheLoveOfAllThingsSparkly. THESE COVERS! Can’t you just FEEL the emotion radiating from the screen?! Bad ass heroines sporting hard core weapons with fierce expressions. What more can you ask for?

maid of honor series

Maids of Honor series.

These covers illustrate character casting at its finest. The cover image manages to capture the essence of the leading lady perfectly! Plus, the hunky guys. Yummm! ;)

illusions of fate

Illusions of Fate.

This is the perfect example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. Isn’t the cover SUBLIME? The story, however, was a bit of a let-down. I LOVE the mischievous smile, the dainty teacup, and the steam of crows. SO MUCH BEAUTY in this cover! I just wish the insides had lived up to the outsides.

the falconer

The Falconer.

Once again, a cover featuring a fierce, totally bad ass heroine. Gotta love the steampunk feel, as well!

Throwback Thursday – Anne of Green Gables

It’s February!! Do you know what this means?!

I am dedicating all of our #ThrowbackThursday posts this month to classic love stories that make me feel all warm and mushy inside.

Feel free to comment below with your own favorite love stories!

Last, but certainly not least, is one of my most favorite literary couples, Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables!

Hip Hip HOORAY for red-headed heroines!

Y’all already know how much I love Anne Shirley. She is such a dreamy, a spunky lass filled with an unquenchably bright spirit that lights up the lives of those around her.

Sparks certainly flew between her and Gilbert, that’s for sure! Of course, those sparks were of the hostile variety… When he tormented and teased her, and called her “Carrots,” the infamous slate-bashing instance occurred. They became bitter enemies, competing with one another academically to be named the best.

Over time, though, Gilbert becomes sweeter and kinder. Anne resisted the thaw in their relationship at first, but eventually, the two foes become friends.

Friendship then developed into something more, and *sigh* Their love story is just the sweetest.

Everyone’s favorite redhead, the spunky Anne Shirley, begins her adventures at Green Gables, a farm outside Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. When the freckled girl realizes that the elderly Cuthberts wanted to adopt a boy instead, she begins to try to win them and, consequently, the reader, over.

Waiting on Wednesday – Royal Wedding

On Wednesdays, bookish people around the globe gather to gush about their favorite upcoming books. Thier stories are hosted by Breaking the Spine.

Y’all already knew that, though. Meg Cabot, after all, is the author who got me started reading Young Adult Literature in the first place.

In junior high and high school, my friends (Including Elizabeth!) and I would all swap the latest story of Princess Mia and then talk about it at lunch. Ummm… Yeah. I was a geek in school. ANYWHO!

The latest installment in the Princess Diaries series is actually a NEW ADULT book, following Mia as she and Michael get hitched! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Excuse me. I CANNOT CONTAIN my excitement about this! I just love, love, LOVE this story, and am so thrilled to see it continue with more mature content and deeper themes. Royal Wedding hits shelves on June 2, 2015!

Check out the cover (OMG, LOVE it!!!) and description below, and preorder your copy TODAY!

royal wedding

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Princess Diaries series, comes the very first adult installment, which follows Princess Mia and her Prince Charming as they plan their fairy tale wedding–but a few poisoned apples could turn this happily-ever-after into a royal nightmare.

For Princess Mia, the past five years since college graduation have been a whirlwind of activity, what with living in New York City, running her new teen community center, being madly in love, and attending royal engagements. And speaking of engagements. Mia’s gorgeous longtime boyfriend Michael managed to clear both their schedules just long enough for an exotic (and very private) Caribbean island interlude where he popped the question! Of course Mia didn’t need to consult her diary to know that her answer was a royal oui.

But now Mia has a scandal of majestic proportions to contend with: Her grandmother’s leaked “fake” wedding plans to the press that could cause even normally calm Michael to become a runaway groom. Worse, a scheming politico is trying to force Mia’s father from the throne, all because of a royal secret that could leave Genovia without a monarch. Can Mia prove to everyone–especially herself–that she’s not only ready to wed, but ready to rule as well?
